A lot of people look at SaaS apps like Intune and assume that backups aren't required as that's being managed by Microsoft. Whilst that's technically true for any major outages, there are many situations where you are going to need a separate backup of your policies.
If you give ten engineers ten fresh customer tenants, you will see ten different versions of what good looks like. One will start with enrolment and Autopilot, another will begin in conditional access; someone else will race to hardening baselines before anyone has agreed on how groups should be structured, which is tolerable when it's only across a handful of tenants.
Most Intune environments start in a reasonable place and with clear priorities: get devices enrolled, deploy the right apps, apply the required policies and make sure users can work without too much friction. At that stage, the setup doesn’t need to be perfect; it just needs to work well enough for the business in front of you. For an MSP, that may mean the customer tenant in front of you - alongside a growing number of others, each with its own users, devices, applications and requirements.
